Hi all,
Happy 4th birthday Cavin! Hope you had a good birthday!
Fun pool party and water guns.
I felt like a city kid the other day as I was watching the workers harvest celery by our office. There are fields all
over the place and so fun to see the harvesting and planting.
There were about 20-30 workers out there and grabbing the celery by the bunch and then chopping it off at
the base and then chopping it off on top with all the green bushy leaves. You can not tell it is celery since it is
all bushy and green. They work really fast of course and put them right in boxes to ship out to stores.
They finished the field one day and the very next day there was a tractor out there plowing it up and plowing
the celery greens right back into the field. Of course they want to fill the fields and get them producing as
quickly as possible but bit talk about fast.
Another field they had strawberries and I hear they only keep strawberries 2-3 years then plow them under
and start a new crop. Sometimes new strawberries and sometimes they change crops so the next crop will
put new nutrients in the soil.
One day they were finished with a huge field and then the very next day they had acres and acres of white
plastic covering it. The next day they cut strips so they could plant.
I am just amazed at all the workers and how quickly they get the crops harvested all by hand workers.
Friday night, president And sister Felix had all the senior couples over to their home for a barbecue and
games. There were 6 couples, so 12 of us. We each brought some thing for the dinner. I brought
strawberry salsa and chips. It was a big hit. Hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. Just a side note
I did not know the mission president and wife have all their expenses paid - all hair cuts, food, and
supplies - all they need. So when they feed us or the missionaries at the home it is all paid for.
Any way we had a good dinner, then we played a game.
Not sure if it has a name... But you can pick a category - charades, drawing or humming. It was ladies
against guys. President Felix was first and he had a hard one. He picked drawing and I his topic was
parables. He was trying to draw some and just a hard one. On the ladies team she hummed some
songs and we guessed them quickly. That was fun.dad had a good one... He did charades and had
pioneer as his topic and they guessed all his - campfire, wheel, broken wheel, snake bite, oxen. There
are 5 you have to guess in three minutes. A really fun game. I had a hard one. My topic was minor
prophets. They got Daniel and Jonah, but I had no idea how to do Ezekiel or Elisha . But it was a fun game.
One of you kids asked if we liked doing the administrative or ministering part of our mission. I do love
the work I do in the office and getting letters to the missionaries and arranging flights and sending
letters to new converts, but it is fun talking to people about the church, and the book of Mormon
class and learning about and teaching people. Last Friday I was super busy with 4 new notifications
of new missionaries coming in September, so getting packets of information out to them, transfer
board card prepared, profile and contact folders and car folders ready. But it is fun and makes the day
go faster when I have lots to do.
We went to a zone activity on Thursday with 2 zones. They were told to find an ancestor and come
prepared to tell about that person and then also dress in that era of clothing. There are 4 days of
these activities so we, in the office pick one to attend so then we can have someone in the office. So
we went Thursday and there were some very interesting stories. And most of the missionaries came in
costumes so that was fun also.
We are doing well and actually have the day off Monday. There is a stake run/walk that we are going
to Plus a Memorial Day program. So will be an interesting day.
Love you all and hope you have a good week.
Love, mom
